Purposes: Nowadays, one may observe that there are a lot of discussions on the abolishing livestock production in America. In recent years, the issue became especially topical because of financial crises, which brings the need to reduce expenditures considerably. It is important to mention that such discussion raises a lot of concerns as livestock production dramatically affects dietary and nutrition issues. Some scholars find negative impact of flesh dieting on people’s health.
The scholars also reveal that some resources, such as food, directed on the development of livestock production could be effectively used in order to resolve problems of feeding and starvation. In addition, many researches show that livestock production negatively affects environment. These findings can constitute an argument for support of livestock production downsizing. However, there is also another point view, according to which livestock production boosts the economical development of the United States.
In particular, some researches demonstrate that the consumption of livestock products will grow considerably in the nearest future. It means that agricultural sector will continue to benefit and thus, contribute to the entire economic development. In this project, I intend to explore arguments for livestock production decrease. In particular, I intend to provide a comprehensive analysis of such arguments through consideration of many researches conducted my scholars.
The completed study is meant to give an insight of main arguments in support of livestock production decrease and how such decrease should deal with current consumption tendencies. Background: I intend to conduct the research through consideration of arguments from the perspectives of health, environment and economy. Thus, while considering arguments through health dimension, I will resort to the exploration of links between chronic diseases risks and dietary patterns.
In order to complete this task I intend to use the records provided by the World Health Organization and surveys conducted by scholars. In addition, I will consider the advantage of non – animal protein consumption. Moreover I will resort to a case study. The use of case study methods is appropriate here as my project includes descriptive and explanatory aspects: how current livestock production affects health, environment and economy and why the abolition of livestock production is desirable.
Therefore, a case study method will to achieve a purpose of current project. Robert Yin (111-112) describes the advantage of a case study method: “compared to other methods, the strength of the case study method is its ability to examine, in – depth, a “case” within its “real life” context. ” Considering the livestock production from the ecological perspective, I will explore: the impact of this sector on greenhouse gas emissions and water pollution and biodiversity issues.
In addition, I intend to observe how land use by livestock production affects the environment. The economic impact will be also explored. Within the economic context, I intend to provide veterinary and health products cost analysis. Moreover, I will address the issues of diverting finances and ideology of American consumers regarding livestock products. Plan: 1. To conduct literature review on the impact of livestock production on health, environment and economy. 2. To conduct a review of Internet – based resources.
