There are different kinds of information technology tools that may be present within an organization. However it is not necessary that they will be used always. Depending on the profile and the domain of operation of organisation, these tools would be used or not used. • Office automation systems Why these tools are not being used. There are many reasons, which result in organisations not using these tools. Few reasons why these tools are not used as much in the offices are as follows: • Fear of change: The big organizations are quick to purchase any tool provided their purchase department is impressed by the sales pitch of the marketing department of the tooling organisation. Usually, in large organizations, purchase departments are different from production departments.

Thus, the tools may not get implemented in the right spirit that the intended users may use it. The intended users, on the other hand, may not be comfortable with new tools. This is especially true for data warehouses, enterprise systems implementations and Enterprise resource planning, in traditional industries. • Non-suitability of the tools: Some tools may have become non-suitable in the changed operating domain. This could be true when the tools are bought with a purpose of serving an immediate need but as the organisation changes its focus, the tool may become redundant.

Expert systems, Global and geographical information systems would be good examples of such category. • Complex automation systems: There are few office automation tools, which are difficult to understand. These tools are usually brought into the system to reduce the time required to complete certain tasks. But, not much attention is paid towards the training of the resources. This results in users, developing a fear factor against the automation tools. Hence, the tools are not used as required.
