For anyone to succeed, they need not only to depend on themselves but also seek advice from all corners. Intellectual and practical skills entail knowledge on teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate with others in diverse group settings. One must have the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing. Critical thinking and analytical skills are crucial in preparation for success. One must ensure that they have the ability to locate, organize and evaluate information from multiple sources. To be innovative and think creatively is also important. The ability to solve complex problems, work with numbers and understand statistics is important in the preparation to succeed.

Personal and social responsibilities entail having teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate with others in diverse group settings. One must have a sense of integrity and ethics. Cultural values and traditions in America and other countries is a priority.

Communication

Working in groups

A working group is an interdisciplinary collaboration of researches working on new research activities that would be difficult to develop under traditional funding mechanisms. Working groups are also known as task groups or technical advisory groups. Such groups have the tendency to develop a quasi-permanent existence once the assigned task is accomplished; hence the need to disband the working group once it has provided solutions to the issues for which it was initially convened. Such goals to be achieved may include: creation of an informational document, creation of a standard or resolution of problems related to a system or network. The work group may assemble experts on a topic together for intensive work. Occasionally, a group might admit a person with little experience and a lot of enthusiasm.

Leadership in work place

Leadership style influences the level of motivation. However, throughout a lifetime, man’s motivation is influenced by changing ambitions and/or leadership style he works under or socialize with. Command-and-control leadership drains off ambition while worker responsibility increases ambition.

There are some characteristics of the behaviors and approaches of outstanding leaders (House and Podsakoff., 1994): vision, outstanding leaders articulate an ideological vision congruent with the deeply-held values of followers, a vision that describes a better future to which the followers have an alleged moral right.

Passion and self-sacrifice where leaders display a passion for, and have a strong conviction of, what they regard as the moral correctness of their vision. They engage in outstanding or extraordinary behavior and make extraordinary self-sacrifices in the interest of their vision and mission. Confidence, determination and persistence-there is a high degree of faith in themselves and in the attainment of the vision they articulate. Theoretically, such leaders need to have a very high degree of self-confidence and moral conviction because their mission usually challenges the status quo and, therefore, may offend those who have a stake in preserving established order.

Image-building- outstanding leaders are self-conscious about their own image. They recognize the desirability of followers perceiving them as competent, credible and trustworthy. Role-modeling- a leader’s image building sets the stage for effective role-modeling because followers identify with the values of role models whom they perceived in positive terms. External representation-outstanding leaders act as spokespersons for their respective organizations and symbolically represent those organizations to external constituencies. Expectations of the confidence in followers- outstanding leaders communicate expectations of high performance from their followers and strong confidence in their followers’ ability to meet such expectations.

Selective motive-arousal- outstanding leaders selectively arouse those motives of followers that they see as of special relevance to the successful accomplishment of the vision and mission. Frame alignment-leaders persuade followers to accept and implement change. They engage in “frame alignment” which refers to the linkage of individual and leader interpretive orientations such that some set of followers’ interests, values and beliefs as well as leader’s activities, goals and ideology become congruent and complementary. Inspirational communication-leaders often but not always communicate their message in an inspirational manner using vivid stories, slogans, symbols and ceremonies.

All these suggested characteristics are but the few that can be used to ensure that a business is successful. The most important thing is to choose a style that suits the employees one is dealing with, the task to be completed and the time the task is to be completed.

Keeping Balance in your Life

There are times when an individual experiences personal problems like death of a close person, sickness and so on. This can make an individual lose balance of what they are supposed to do. It will greatly affect the business returns, thus, it is important for one to have ways in which they can find their balance al the time they experience an imbalance.

Any individual should struggle to have some ability in any area of a business. One should not be extraordinarily good in one area and pathetic in the other. For example, one can perform mathematical calculations instantly in his head but cannot get along with others at the work place. Such a person is a good example of having difficulties in balancing.

It is possible to find the balance. For example the brain has limited abilities but it carries out the vital concept; balance. One can get better at balancing by increasing the awareness and knowledge so as to detect sooner when one is losing balance and how to restore it. One must not set their course once and for all; instead, they must be ready to change the direction. They must keep checking and keep correcting their course so that they arrive where they want to go. Everything needs to be roughly in proper position. The secret to the previous dilemmas of study versus relationships or play versus productivity, the dilemmas are solved not by choosing one or the other, but by allotting each their time.
